Light Rail on University Avenue

Textile Center’s neighborhood is part of a change that will be transforming the entire metro area.

The Highlights

  • Light Rail is coming to University Avenue.
  • A traffic signal is being added to the intersection we anchor.
  • The Prospect Park, East River Road Neighborhood Association which we are part of is planning for more exciting developments.

WINTER UPDATE—DECEMBER 27, 2011

What's Happening Right Now
Construction along our stretch of University Avenue looks to be quiet during the remainder of the year and really into late February. We expect normal and easier access throughout the next two weeks. Some of this will depend on the weather, but the outlook is quiet on that front.

UPDATE: The Huron Avenue Exit from I-94 is REOPENED for those approaching from the west.

Looking Ahead
We expect to hear the details about the soon-to-arrive signal light at 29th Avenue. This is a positive addition providing a safe crossing option at University Avenue for pedestrian traffic. It has been discussed as being added early in 2012, so we’ll let you know as soon as we hear!

We’re also encouraging sidewalk extensions and improvements along the west side of 29th Avenue between Textile Center and the surface parking lot just off 4th. We expect this to take a good amount of energy to get it into the plans and establish a timeline.

Good to Know

Throughout the construction of University Avenue’s Central Corridor Light Rail project we will:

  • Always be open for you to visit.
  • Always have ample parking options nearby.
  • Always have access to our front door.

We know that construction will begin in earnest in late winter/early spring 2012 (March or April). We also know that the majority of construction will be complete in late 2012. It’s true that we will have some days that will be more challenging than others in the coming months.

Check for Regular Updates

We will be updating this page, our home page and other social media outlets with the latest news as it pertains to the developments. Keep in mind that we will always be open for you to visit, always have parking options and always have access to our front door.
