News from the Library: Notes from NancyAuthor Brown Bag LunchesTuesday, February 23, 12 - 1 pm Diane Fitzgerald, jewelry designer and bead collector and author of "Shaped Beadwork" will be the Author Bag Lunch featured artist on February 23, Tuesday from noon to 1. Bring your lunch. Coffee and cake provided. Diane Fitzgerald is a bead collector and jewelry designer who works with a variety of beads large and small, old and new. Since 1989, Diane has taught classes at her shop, Beautiful Beads, in Minneapolis, across the U.S. and internationally. She writes for several magazines and is the 2008 recipient of the Bead & Button Show Excellence in Bead Artistry Award. She is the author of numerous books. Her newest book is titled Shaped Beadwork: dimensional jewelry with peyote stitch by Lark Publishers. Along with color, texture, and luminosity, shape can set a piece of jewelry apart. In Diane Fitzgerald's Shaped Beadwork, part of Lark Books' Beadweaving Master Class series, the renowned beading teacher shows you how to weave simple increase patterns to make beautiful two- and three-dimensional forms. Most of the projects offer instructions for making complete pieces of jewelry. Basic triangles are transformed into lively flowers on the Trillium Necklace, and the Jeweled Necklace features a round central cabochon flanked by a series of square cabochons, all set into exquisite beadwork. The versatile patterns the author provides are building blocks that you can use to design your own inspiring jewelry. In other news, the Library has recently received a generous donation of two new computers for the Library! Available for all of your research needs, come see these new speedy machines!
Please call the Librarian during office hours to obtain your ID Number and password or ask for your new library card when you visit the library. Bring it in when you visit the library to check out books. Library Collection & Services
Library Staff & Volunteers The Textile Center Library is staffed by a professional librarian, responsible for the stewardship of this unique collection. Library volunteers are essential partners in keeping our Library open and functional. Volunteers receive training on checking books in and out, reshelving books, researching patron's requests and special projects coordinated by the Librarian. Volunteers may serve as few as 2 hours per month. Please contact the Librarian to learn more about volunteering. Check Out Policy Anyone may visit and use the Library to do research. Members of the Textile Center and Participating Member Organizations have full check out privileges. All items may be checked out for a period of 35 days. A maximum of 10 items per member may be checked out. Renewal Policy & Fines Books may be renewed once - in person, online or by phone. Materials renewed on or before the due date will be renewed for 35 more days from the date they are renewed. When materials are renewed after the due date, fines will accrue from the due date to the renewal date, and you must return the materials and pay the fine before checking out more materials. Used Book Sale & Donations The Textile Center Library maintains an ongoing sale of used, out-of-print, and rare textile related books. Our book sale is available to the public, as well as Textile Center members, during regular Library hours. Our sale book prices are competitive with current market rates for used books. In addition, the Textile Center Library periodically offers discount sales - to help give you an even better bargain! Money received from book sales help support our library services goals for the future. PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to your generous donations this year, the library is overstocked with books and needs a chance to catch up! We will not be accepting book or magazine donations again until September 2009. Donate your textile books, periodicals, electronic media, and exhibition catalogs to the library. Please contact the Librarian for specific needs and instructions about how to send us your donation. The Library is also happy to accept monetary or material donations in honor, celebration or memory of a loved one. You can donate gifts to help purchase books, periodicals and library media, or help provide funding for special projects. Download the Donation Form here to accompany your gift. Participating Member Organizations Textile Center member organizations who choose to provide materials, time, and a $1 per member annual maintenance fee to the Library are considered to be Participating Member Organizations of the Library. These Organizations may house their collections in the library, where they are under the supervision of a professional librarian, in a central location, and available during more hours than most groups can provide. Participating Member Organizations retain ownership of their collection, have representation on the Library Committee and full library privileges for their members.
