Introducing
"Dye Lab Thursdays" with Candy Kuehn
What: Candy will be in residence in the dye lab this fall. The dye lab will be open to all for advice, inspiration, instruction or just to play with Candy. Candy will be there to answer questions, assist with projects, provide guidance and instructions about dye techniques and equipment use, and give advice on working with dyes safely.
Who: Candy Kuehn is a fabulously creative and inspiring artist known for her colorful dye work and spectacular costumes. She is also a popular instructor at the Textile Center.
When: Thursdays. 10:30am - 4:30pm.
Not available during the day? On the last Thursday of the month, we will shift to 1:00 - 7:00 pm for those who might be able to make it to early evening hours.
No pre-registration necessary, but there is a limit of 8 students in the dye lab at a time. Please call ahead or sign up at the dye lab to assure a space. Please check posted schedule for specifics and dates.
Where: Textile Center Dye Lab.
How it works:
1. You buy a "Dye Lab Thursdays" Punch Card from the Shop.
2. Choose from cards with 2, 4 or 8 available punches.
- 2 punches = $30, 4 punches = $60, 8 punches = $120
3. One punch will be worth 3 hours in the dye lab on a Thursday with Candy.
4. Mix and Match! You can use punches any way you would like to combine them:
- stay for 6 hours one day (2 punches)
- bring a friend and each work for 3 hours (2 punches)
- come for a 3 hour play date with Candy (1 punch)
- stop in from 1:30-4:30 every Thursday in October (4 punches)
- for an additional punch, Candy will steam your piece in our steam cabinet (details to follow)
5. Candy will punch your card for the hours you are there. You can buy a new card at any time in the Textile Center shop or office.
What do you get for one punch?
- Use of the dye lab for 3 hours including tools & equipment, washers & dryer
- One-on-One help from our Artist in Residence
- Opportunity to work and play with other artists and creative people
- Share secret recipes! Candy will supply "the palette of the day" dyes and cook up pastes for you to use or you can bring your own.
- The dye lab will be supplied with citric acid, soda ash, salt and vinegar.
- Use an extra punch to add on use of the dye vat or to have Candy steam set your piece.

- You design the class! Need help with just one specific thing? Have little dyeing you want to do for your piece for the Common Thread show? You come up with the plan.
What do you need to bring?
- Your own materials for the project you would like to complete.
- Gloves, a mask, and an apron.
- Masks, silk blanks, dyes and dye chemicals will be available for purchase in the shop.
Other things you should know.
Dye Lab Thursdays will continue throughout the school year and will take a break for the summer and holidays. Occasional days may not be available due to a Visiting Artist or other special event scheduled in the dye lab. A schedule will be posted outside the dye lab.
The price for Punch Cards indicated on this flyer is our introductory price for this program. This price will be honored through December 31, 2007.
Punch cards are non-refundable. Punch cards can be transferred to another person. You are responsible for your card. The Textile Center does not keep a record of used or un-used punches on your card. An information sheet with all of the details about use of the Dye Lab will be issued with your punch card.
