The Textile Mobile recently went on the road to do an all day teacher training workshop with the talented art teachers of Albert Lea, MN. We dove right in with a morning of felting and dyeing wool, cotton and silk. We started with the basics and also learned advanced techniques to challenge older students. We talked about "art vs craft" and how to use fiber arts in the classroom to learn basic art concepts.

| After a quick lunch break, the dye projects were revealed! Then we moved on to braids and cords. Kumihimo was a bit of a challenge! What's kumihimo? You'll have to come to a workshop to find out. | ![]() |

Move over tapestries! Make an amulet bag! Make a finger
puppet! We shared lots of ideas to add new life to your weaving
unit. Kids love to weave and we found ways to challenge students
who already know the basics. We've all tried paper weaving, but what about weaving on an inkle loom? Quick to learn, easy to warp - inkles are our favorites! |
